EC Blue – rapid water testing for the detection of coliforms and E. coli

EC Blue is a simple, fast, and reliable microbiological test for the determination of coliform bacteria and Escherichia coli in water samples. The method is ideal for drinking water monitoring, process water testing, environmental monitoring, and quality assurance applications.

A key advantage of the EC Blue system is that no sample preparation is required: the 100 mL water sample can be tested directly, providing a clear, visually interpretable result after 24 hours of incubation.

EC Blue test:

• Indicates the presence of coliform bacteria through a chromogenic colour reaction (blue / blue-green discolouration)
• The presence of E. coli can be detected by fluorescence under UV light 
• Results are available within 24 hours

To use the EC Blue system:

• No culture medium preparation is required
• No filtration or pre-dilution is required
• Only an incubator is required

Basic protocol:

• Add 100 mL of water sample to the EC Blue 100 bottle
• Incubate at 35 ± 2 °C for 24 hours
• Evaluate the colour reaction and UV fluorescence

EC Blue tests:

• Do not require refrigerated storage
• Can be stored for 2 years at room temperature (protected from light)
• Also ideal for field testing
